‘READY TO STRIKE’
OIL ON CANVAS 22″ X 16″
I have been experimenting with perfecting my ‘fur’ technique. There is no better place to practice than that of the hues and rosettes of a leopard whilst retaining the muscle definition.
This leopard is oblivious to all surrounding distractions and is locked on to it’s target, however a successful hunt is not guaranteed.

You can take a closer look at this beauty in the gallery below.

‘TIME TO REFLECT’
OIL ON CANVAS 34 X 16 IN
A most unusual composition of a giraffe drinking alongside the ever present blacksmith plovers.
When giraffe are drinking, they are at their most vulnerable from both crocodiles and lions. Hopefully, the vigilance of the blacksmith plovers would give fair warning to any threat enabling these gentle giants to make a timely escape.

‘ACACIA PRINCE’
OIL ON CANVAS 20 X 16 IN
Accompanied by the chattering of a group of vervet monkeys, this beautiful young prince was awakened from an afternoon doze.
Leopards spend much of their day deep in thickets of foliage or adorning the highest branches of trees, especially the African Acacia. This allows them to escape the attentions from the likes of tiresome monkeys who would disclose their position to possible prey.
Leopards usually become active under the cover of darkness when the heat of the day has subsided.

Lanner Falcoln Study progress update.

Lanner Falcon study 8 x 8 ins.
Posted on fb 03 April 2022
A friend of mine Chris Burczak, has just returned from the Kalahari with a wealth of wonderful material. One digital in particular of a juvenile Lanner with a dove is outstanding and will make for an exceptional oil painting.
Raptors are very specific in their markings so I have started an 8 x 8 inch study, (following in the footsteps of the great Ray Harris Ching), to prepare my techniques for the main piece. Capturing the details of these exquisite birds of prey is far more challenging than first thought but I am thoroughly enjoying the journey! I will post an up-date tomorrow.
Herewith the second stage of my ‘Lanner Falcoln’ Study

Although the Lanner Falcoln can only attain half the speed of it’s cousin the Peregrine Falcoln, (over 350km/ph, making it the fastest animal in the world), it’s hunting technique is still speed and surprise.
I have personally witnessed these beautiful raptors hunting successfully both in the Zambezi Valley and the Kalahari.

LANNER FALCOLN STUDY 8X8
Piece completed 06 April 2022
I have completed my ‘Lanner Falcoln Study’ and it has come out beautifully! I am extremely happy with the final product.
“To correctly depict the beauty of these exquisite raptors justifies the many hours involved in creating this study in preparation for a larger piece. The Paul Crosland, Brian Rab Bode and Chris Burczak of this world might have noticed the omittance of the ‘tomial tooth’ in the second digital. This anatomical error has been corrected for fear of ascribing to their well meaning criticism.” Andrew Bone
